Image of Bottled WaterAt Components Company Inc., we believe that we have a responsibility to support our community in any way that we can. So when tragedy struck our neighboring county in mid-July, we were happy to step up and offer our assistance.

‘Massive’ and ‘Unprecedented’ Flooding

A series of storms that brought heavy rainfall to southeastern Wisconsin in mid-July was especially damaging to Burlington in Racine County. After the Fox River, which flows through the center of the city, swelled to five feet above flood stage by July 13, Police Chief Mark Anderson declared the flooding to be “massive” and “unprecedented.”

As the city’s four main bridges closed due to flood waters, Anderson said that no one in the city of Burlington, which has about 10,000 residents, was untouched by the damage. An electrical substation was also underwater; cutting power to thousands in the area for days.

Take a look at this YouTube video, published on July 14, about the Burlington flooding to get an idea of the circumstances during this time.

As more roads and highways closed due to the massive flooding, Gov. Scott Walker declared a state of emergency in Racine County and two others; Walworth and Kenosha. About 100 National Guard soldiers were sent to Burlington alone to help with traffic control, sandbagging and checking on residents.

Meanwhile, many organizations such as the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army provided food, water and shelter to those affected by the floods. The Red Cross even opened 24-hour shelters to help flood victims. These nonprofit organizations rely primarily on donations from individuals and companies to be able to provide relief to victims.

Components Company joined in on this effort and donated 16 cases of water for the flood victims in southeastern Wisconsin. We are always happy to give back to our community – especially when unforeseen circumstances threaten the welfare of our residents. We pledge to continue to support our community to the best of our ability.
